It’s hard to believe that it’s been 9 years since my husband and I opened ecce studio. We had recently moved back to Fargo from the west coast when I began teaching classes out of our new house near downtown. A small group of curious and willing people began to come, many of whom are still practicing at ecce today!
Two to three times a week we would move all of our furniture out of our living room into our smaller dining room. I remember putting tea light candles on my windowsills, just hoping that someone would show up to practice and learn.
After 8 months of using our home as a studio, we decided to take a risk and find a space to rent downtown. My brother was looking to expand his art gallery at the same time and we fortunately found a space large enough to accomodate both of our visions. We signed our first lease in early Dec 2007.
Ecce Yoga has over the years changed in many important ways. The space itself has evolved and expanded, the class offerings have become more diverse and respectful of all traditions and we’ve added more “off the mat” events to help build the community up and to create more curiosity and empowerment.
There have been countless moments over these past 9 years where I have felt quite literally that ecce saved me. Through multiple personal losses and struggles, through the birth of my girl Ruby and the experience of being a mom for the first time…ecce has been a place of comfort, support, friendship and love for me. I feel I am a better person because it exists and feel truly blessed to hold the space for everyone who feels drawn to it.
I do not know what the future holds. What I do know is that this place is very special. The practices we do together are important for our individual well-being as well as for the health of our families and our larger community.
Thank you for being on this journey with us. Thank you for supporting our vision and for all your continuing love and commitment to the practice of yoga.
